Note: The pedal octave switching is confusing and is the weakest part
of the Duo Art scheme. Because the pedal notes are always extracted
from holes 1-13 of one row of holes, it is impossible to play octaves
in the pedal stops, except for the "C's". The roll editors were confused
as errors can be found in coding C# second octave on several rolls.
In essence, the Great to Pedal or Swell to Pedal is always drawn, which
sometimes leads to problems. The system causes errant pedal notes when manual notes fall
into the pedal range (1-13) when those notes were never intended to play
in the pedal.
#7 Early Aeolian reed organs had 58 note keyboards,
the rolls were made to match. To take advantage of the full 61 note pipe
organ keyboard compass, Aeolian added a three-note transposer. Hole #7 causes
notes 47, 48, and 49 to play one octave higher, at #59-60-61. This varies with installation.
#9 No toggle - function on only while hole #9 remains open
#11 No toggle - function on only while hole #11 remains open
#162 Swell extension to 61 notes. Like #7.
#170 Reroll.
#172 After the tiny center tracking perforations at the start of the roll,
but before any of the stops and shades are set up, #172 gets a slot perf.
This puts suction to all the control pouches and the note pouches so they
can operate.
#173 & #174 Only meaningful on earliest rolls and installations, parallels 116 manual to holes coupler
#175 Various functions that appear to be installation specific Senses beginning of roll or Swell string ppp
#176 Switches Pedal input (notes 1-13) from lower holes to upper holes.
#164 and 166 are labeled L.C.W. No one seems to know what LCW means. No jacks toggles for these holes.
